A polygon that is both equilateral and equiangular is a regular polygon. When a triangle is equilateral, it is automatically equiangular, but that is not the case with other polygons. An equilateral triangle is regular, because all three of its sides are the same length and all its angles measure 60°. A square is a regular polygon because all its angles are right angles and all its sides are congruent.

Polygons are given specific names according to the number of their sides. Common polygons include:

3 sides: triangle

4 sides: quadrilateral

5 sides: pentagon

6 sides: hexagon

8 sides: octagon

10 sides: decagon
